Update!

Well it has been a confusing two weeks!  My blog had an error message and I was unable to post a thing!

Since we have 3 feet of snow and 15 degrees in the middle of the day - the sap is not running.  And, a mink or weasel killed our entire flock of layer hens!  We are not alone, it has been a difficult year for many.

I returned a month ago from my Route 1 trip and I am happy to report that since my blog is now up and running again, I will post some of the pictures.  I particularly want to thank two gentlemen I met along Route 1.

Chris Bury, a visitor center representative at Occoquan, VA and JD Williams of Riverdale, MD for their patience, information and referrals on Route 1. A book of this type has little to offer without the kind help of local people.

One thing I did realize during this trip is the side effect that Route 95 has on US Route 1. Before Route 95 was built, local people worked at local restaurants, hotels and gas stations.  Now, it seems people must travel a way to find work resulting in service areas run by non-local people. It answers the question why, when I am driving, that when I stop for directions, more often than not the answer is 'I am sorry, I don't live around here'.

I was disappointed to find that I by passed Richmond on a new bridge. As we travel on US Route 1, we often find that it has been replaced by a bridge, highway or just dead ended.

A new hopeful wrinkle in the book - I am looking into local area junior and senior high schools, through all the states on US Route 1, to determine if they would like to contribute to the book.  My feeling is that the kids would enjoy a local project that ultimately results in a section of my book on Route 1. Sort of bring back civics!

Sara and Sammy Safety joined me on the trip this year and they were well received by one and all. Their pics will be posted as well.

Sara and Sammy are being updated and resized. It occurred to us, that the smaller size was not recognizable in restaurants and hotels. I have just finished making new Sara and Sammy Safety and will debut them in a few days.

For now that is it!
