Tommy, Olivia and the gingerbread houses. We are also getting the Garlic cookbook ready for printing.
Sap season is almost here. The lines are being cleared of several feet of
snow. Todd is in good seasonal condition. Tommy is preparing to help Dad. Molly and the girls along with Todd and Tommy will soon get The Goode Shop ready for business.
The cookbooks are doing well. A new one, Garlic for Hire, will be out later in the year complete with 2 new characters: Giovanni, the
Garlic Gent and Alphonso, his farming buddy.
(aka the ‘little’ fruit cookbooks)
We live in
Central New Hampshire on the side of Mt. Cardigan. We own and operate a 50 acre
farm. We produce maple syrup from our own trees and raise blueberries, and then
there are the chickens!
Several
years ago, my son was learning to produce maple syrup and I was experimenting
with using maple syrup in recipes. My son, Todd and grandson, Tommy, love maple
syrup in just about everything. While the process became streamlined, I was
assembling the recipes.
About the
same time, 400 blueberry plants were planted. As they came to produce, again we
experimented with recipes and all types of uses for blueberries. It was at this
point, I thought we should develop cookbooks to be sold along with both of our
products. My grandchildren and I began the process of writing the cookbooks.
Their learning is still in process but it has included writing recipes, reading
directions, measuring, storage and preservation of fruit as well as thinking
about what ingredient would go with what ingredient. We had some bombs! But the
end result was perfect! Excellent for focusing on math, science and reading!
Finally,
with the help of my friends and family, the cookbooks were designed, organized,
assembled, printed and self-published. It was a long, group effort. The books
were illustrated by both of my grandchildren, Tommy, my assistant and Olivia,
my helper.
As the
seasons changed, my grandchildren decided they wanted a cookbook of
strawberries and one of apples. Again we went through the process of writing
more cookbooks!
And, the 2nd will be described on the Nana’s Neighborhood page. One thing is for sure, they can’t wait to continue making more cookbooks. I will blog as this next cookbook unfolds!
While all
cooks can follow the Cardigan Farms Cookbooks, they are excellent for beginner
cooks. The equipment is detailed as are the ingredients and directions. They
are very popular!
